Start with the items you are ready to receive
Complete your QC review and resolve any return or exchange requests before submitting a parcel. Check that every selected item is in the warehouse and belongs in this shipment.
Review route restrictions for the specific contents. Batteries, liquids, powders, fragile goods and other categories may affect eligibility. Confirm what the agent and carrier accept before choosing a service.
Understand actual and volumetric weight
Actual weight is the weight of the packed parcel. Volumetric weight is a billing measure based on the space it occupies. A route may use the greater of the two or apply a different published rule.
Where a volumetric calculation applies, it commonly uses the parcel's length × width × height divided by the carrier's specified divisor. Use the units and divisor stated for your selected route; do not reuse a number from an unrelated shipping service.
Ask for the measured package details if you need to explain a quote. Check minimum charges, rounding increments and size limits as well as the headline price per kilogram.
Balance parcel size with protection
Consolidating items may reduce repeated packaging, but a larger parcel can change which routes are available. Compare the actual quotes for a combined parcel and separate shipments.
Before requesting box removal or vacuum packing, consider the product's shape, fragility and return needs. Ask which packing options suit the contents and confirm any cost. Reducing volume should not leave an item without the protection it needs.
Compare the whole service
- Eligibility: destination, contents, weight and dimensions.
- Price: final billing weight, surcharges and selected extras.
- Tracking: where to follow the parcel and how updates are provided.
- Delivery: available handover information and any address restrictions.
- Cover: covered events, exclusions, evidence requirements and claim deadlines.
- Timing: the current estimate and any known operational notices.
Treat the quoted transit window as an estimate. Warehouse handling, transport availability, inspections and final delivery can affect progress.
Check your UK address before payment
Use the recipient's full name, house number or building name, street, town or city, postcode and destination country. Include the flat number where relevant. Check that the postcode matches the full delivery address and use the contact details the carrier requires.
Select the correct destination, including Northern Ireland where the form distinguishes it. For a university hall or workplace, check its parcel-acceptance instructions and include the needed room or department information. Keep delivery instructions separate from the core address fields where possible.
Give an accurate description of the contents
Supply truthful item descriptions, quantities and values supported by your purchase records. Keep the item invoices and parcel details available if you are asked for evidence.
Do not describe a purchase as a gift or enter a made-up value to change its treatment. If a declaration field is unclear, ask the agent what information it requires before submitting the parcel.
Check current UK import rules
VAT generally applies to purchases imported from China. For Great Britain, non-excise goods worth £135 or less do not attract Customs Duty; that does not make them VAT-free. Above £135, the duty rate depends on the goods and their origin. Northern Ireland has separate rules.
Check how charges are collected and what your quote includes. Use the current GOV.UK tax and duty guidance for your destination and parcel. Guidance reviewed 23 September 2026.
Follow the parcel and keep the records
Save the parcel reference, selected route and tracking link. A gap between scans does not by itself explain the cause of a delay. Check the latest tracking event and current service information before asking support to investigate.
When the parcel arrives, check the outside before discarding packaging. Record visible damage and keep the label, packing materials and item evidence if you need to report a problem through the applicable support or claim process.
